AgFirst joins Farm Credit institutions in relief efforts for Texas Hill Country flood victims
COLUMBIA, SC – In response to the catastrophic flooding that devastated Texas Hill Country over the Independence Day weekend, AgFirst Farm Credit Bank joined fellow Farm Credit institutions in an initiative led by the Texas Farm Credit District to provide $285,000 in critical relief funding. The donation, directed to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, will support recovery efforts in communities hardest hit by the disaster.
Donations for the collaborative relief effort came from the Texas Farm Credit District, AgFirst, CoBank, AgWest, AgSouth, First South, the Federal Farm Credit Banks Funding Corporation and Farmer Mac. The floods, triggered by torrential rains that caused the Guadalupe River to rise more than 26 feet in under an hour, have claimed over 100 lives and left many missing, including young campers from Camp Mystic.
“At AgFirst, our mission is rooted in supporting rural America – and that’s never more important than in moments of profound hardship,” said AgFirst Interim CEO and Chief Credit Officer Pat Calhoun. “The devastation in the Texas Hill Country is heartbreaking, and we seek to do our part in helping these communities recover and rebuild. We are proud to stand alongside our Farm Credit partners in delivering meaningful aid where it’s needed most.”
Farm Credit is steadfast in its commitment to rural resilience, ensuring that communities have the support they need to recover and thrive.
“Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this devastating event,” said Amie Pala, Chief Executive Officer, Farm Credit Bank of Texas. “We’re proud to join with the broader Farm Credit System in offering support to families, first responders, and local organizations as they work through this incredibly difficult time.”
In addition to institutional contributions, Farm Credit employees across the country are donating to the Farm Credit System Employee Relief Fund, which provides financial assistance to employees affected by natural disasters and other emergencies.
