AgFirst partners with SC Farm Bureau to support Ag Learning Lab

Agriculture is major economic driver in South Carolina, yet some students are unaware of the everyday processes that produce the food they eat, the fuel they use and the fiber that surrounds them. Bridging that gap is the mission behind the S.C. Farm Bureau’s Ag in the Classroom program.

Ag in the Classroom works to increase agricultural literacy among K–8 students by connecting them though hands-on experiences to an industry that plays a vital role in the Palmetto State’s economy and way of life.

One of the program’s most visible initiatives is the Ag Learning Lab, a traveling, farm-themed educational mobile trailer that comes directly to schools across the state. Students who visit the lab explore important state commodities and learn how many products move from the field to their plate. Each visit includes instruction led by a certified Ag in the Classroom educator and engaging, hands-on learning opportunities that bring agriculture to life.

To support this mission, AgFirst donated $9,000 to the Ag Learning Lab. The donation provides scholarships for schools seeking to educate their students on the importance of agriculture and expand access to the program statewide.

“Partnerships like this are essential to the work we do,” said Jill Hurst, Ag in the Classroom Program Director. “AgFirst’s support helps us reach more schools, serve more students and expand agricultural education across South Carolina.”

AgFirst is proud to partner with the S.C. Farm Bureau to provide more students a better understanding of the critical role agriculture plays in their lives.
